When somebody passes away, many people look for a way to express their love for that person and the grief that they feel at their passing. It has long been the tradition for people to send floral tributes in memory of the deceased. That practice continues today and we are happy to receive tributes at our offices on the day of the funeral so that they can accompany the deceased to the service and place of committal. Please instruct your chosen florist to contact us for the correct day and time to deliver.

We are able to advise on local florists who can provide tributes. You will find details of some in our "Useful Information - Floral Tributes" section. You can also order flowers via InterFlora if you do not live locally and they will instruct a local florist on your behalf.

As an alternative to flowers, more and more people are now electing to have money given to a specific charity in memory of the deceased. In this way a charity that has meant something to the deceased or their family can receive donations that they would otherwise not have.

We offer a service to all our clients whereby we will collect donations on their behalf for up to four weeks following the funeral. These donations are then sent to the charity with a fully itemised list of who each donation is from and the details of who the donations are in memory of. A letter is also sent to the person who originally instructed us, informing them of the total amount collected and who donated. In this way the donations may be acknowledged to those who gave.

If you elect to have donations given, please be aware that we can only accept them for registered charities. All cheques sent to us must be made payable to the charity and not to J. Worley (Funeral Directors) Ltd. We regret that we are unable to accept cash donations or donations by credit or debit card.

When instructed we will include details for charitable donations in any death notice placed in the local papers.

Gift Aid (add 28% to your donation for nothing!)
If you are a UK tax payer and you are intending to donate to a charity, you may wish to include a Gift Aid Declaration. This will enable the charity to claim 28% of your donation back from the government, making every pound you donate worth £1.28. We have forwarded tens of thousands of pounds over the years. This represents only a small percentage of the charities we deal with. As you can see, this can be a way of raising a lot of money for good causes and leaving a lasting legacy in memory of your loved one.

J. Worley (Funeral Directors) Ltd. does not charge an administration fee for this service, it is included in our professional fee. We do not hold any charitable donations in our own accounts and all monies are checked and recorded when received. Names and addresses supplied with donations are passed to the named charity and the funeral instructor for acknowledgement purposes only.
